2019 - 2020

May 2020 - Historical Documents

As BearSync is being phased out by SAO, Class Coordinating Board (CCB) will be putting historical documents and files on the Resources page to better clarify information about CCB. For more information, please head over to our Resources page.

November 2019 - Funding Transparency

As a branch of student government, Class Coordinating Board (CCB)’s mission is to create a better Brown student experience by conceptualizing and executing campus-wide events to foster community and build tradition among undergraduates.

CCB receives funding from UFB to cover all the costs of Senior Nights, all undergraduate-wide campus events, and finally a portion of Senior Week programming as well. While the Senior Board technically receives these funds, they are only responsible for programming Senior Night Series and Senior Week. Undergraduate-wide events, such as Gala, Gigs on the Grass, Treat Yourself Week, and Breakfast at Midnight, are planned by the entire Class Board.

With the exception of Senior Week and Gala, all CCB events are completely free and open to the entire Brown undergraduate community. For more information on our nuanced structures and funding avenues, check out our Funding Transparency Document that explains our budget in more detail, including how we support financial aid.

October 2019 - Environmental Sustainability

Sustainability is an increasing concern in our event planning due to the immediate and long-term necessity to consider our impact on the earth’s systems. In order to reduce waste at events and lower event costs over time, CCB hopes to implement various environmentally focused practices in our planning and organization. Leadership is not just about serving the people but also establishing a lasting and supportive environment for the people. Our sustainability initiative aims to better regulate materials ordered for events to remain environmentally conscious while fitting within our budgets (e.g. compostable cups/plates, single-use bamboo cutlery, materials that can have multiple uses for future events). We also hope to implement better methods of composting and recycling at events (potentially including terracycling) to eliminate waste coming from large scale events including, but not limited to, better signage and bin set up. CCB is also working to pay attention to how much lighting and electricity we use during events to minimize energy consumption while ensuring we have a safe environment for students attending events.

Through our environmental and sustainability initiatives in the near future, we hope to influence other organizations on campus to pay attention to sustainability practices in their event coordination to lead to a more environmentally conscious campus. September 2019 - Class Representative Pilot

The Class of 2021 Coordinating Board piloted a “Class Representative” position in an initiative aimed at increasing community engagement and growing the functional operating ability of the board. Three observations motivated this initiative: (1) There are undergraduates that are interested in contributing to CCB-held events, but do not have the time to commit to being a class officer. (2) There are qualified undergraduates that run for class officer positions and are not elected, but would still like to participate in CCB. (3) An increase in the number of CCB members would increase the community engagement for events by expanding the network accessible to the board.

Although the pilot is still in progress, it has proved to more than marginally increase community engagement through an expanded network of undergraduates and improved the event planning and staffing capabilities for the Class of 2021 Coordinating Board.

August 2019 - Standardization of Student Government Elections

There are three branches of Brown’s student government: Class Coordinating Board (CCB), Undergraduate Council of Students (UCS), and Undergraduate Finance Board (UFB). While in the past our elections were held separately, the fall student government election for first-years was standardized with UCS for the first time in 2019. This included a cohesive “Introduction to Student Government @ Brown” presentation with UCS and UFB as well as joint election info sessions, timelines, requirements for candidacy, and ballots with UCS. As equal branches, this initiative aims to provide clarity on our different roles on campus and emphasize our collective efforts to serve the Brown undergraduate community as elected representatives.

This initiative is ongoing and will be focusing on spring elections this year. As per our constitution, the Senior Co-Presidents are election chairs. Fall elections and appointments are led by the Constitution and Elections Committee, and spring elections are led by the Senior board.

2018 - 2019

October 2018 - Constitution Revisions

Following implementation of internal subcommittees, the Constitution and Elections Committee began revising CCB’s constitution for the purpose of documenting goals and expectations within our organization. While initial efforts have focused on bringing our constitution up to date and formalizing ways to introduce new bylaws and amendments, the main goal of this initiative is to hold ourselves accountable and provide a living document that addresses the changing needs of our organization and the ways we serve our student body. Our continued dedication to our constitution aims to promote sustainability of effective practices and revise past articles that may no longer be relevant or calls for change.

Our constitution, to be updated at the start of each semester, can be found here.

October 2018 - Internal Subcommitees

In October 2018, we discussed and voted to implement three internal committees in Class Board. These committees would allow us to carry out our other goals such as promoting an internal community amongst Class Board’s General Body members through our Bonding and Mentoring Committee, revising our Constitution and facilitating the elections/appointment process through our Constitution and Elections Committee, and finally facilitating conversations about the importance of diversity and inclusion both internally in our general body meetings  and externally through the events we put on through our Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Each committee is ideally made up of four representatives (each representative being a different class year). For more information on subcommittees, check out our most recent bylaws that were voted into our Constitution (updated 3/23/2019).
